  1. Many soundtracks from this era of "Blaxploitation" films were heavy on instrumentals, but this Impressions album is built on the vocal ability of the four band members. Man, these guys could sing! Curtis or not, they more than hold their own on this recording. Plus, the "bonus" album in this 2-for-1 CD, "First Impressions", is just as good.5/5(4).

  3. Yes, the tracks are too short. No, it’s not as good as Phaedra, Rubycon, or Ricochet. But, damn, what a great album. The synth sounds are like giant beasts, I imagine them eminatining from a room full of giant modular analog synths, drawing enough current that they need their own power transformer from the local power company in order to prevent an entire West German power outage/5().
  4. Dec 21,  · My first impression of this new pressing is that the bass was mixed a little too high for my tastes. But when I turned it down a touch, I was able to hear some of the details that must have always been there. Very good all around enjoyable album, but would still stick with the 1st pressing which can be found on discogs for only $10 more or so/5().
  5. If a warbly alto makes you David Byrne, then, yes, there's that aspect of Alec Ounsworth's voice to be reckoned with, but Clap Your Hands Say Yeah deserve better than first impression labeling like this. They simply have made a good record here -- one that a great deal of people will find an enjoyable listen.
  6. Produced by Neil Slaven, I'll readily admit this wasn't a groundbreaking collection, but overlooking the touchy-feely title, anyone who through these guys were a third tier pseudo-progressive outfit was likely to be surprised and impressed by Free-styled blues-rockers like 'Keepin' Time'', 'Way Back To the Bone', and 'Feeling So Much Better Now'.
  7. Oct 16,  · The first impression was a bit pale and almost boring. But after giving the album a few more tries it really grew on me. These guys can offer more then just straight forward black metal, and some parts of the album are really interesting and helps to raise my impression of the album in total.
